Pirate Face Paint Tutorial

Looking to use face paint to make your little one into a pirate?  After watching the pirate makeover at Disney several times, I decided I could attempt it at home.  I will do my best to give step by step guidance for you to attempt yourself.

In October our soccer league hosts a 3v3 Soccer Tournament called Spookout, where the kids play several games dressed up. They have a Team, Referee, Coaches Costume Contest, Tents are also judged. After all the games the kids go trick or treating to all the parent tents. This particular year the boys dressed like pirates, I ordered some pirate goodies from Amazon I will list below.

This is the magic sponge you need. This face paint kit will have everything you need including a beard sponge.  Some paints are water activated and some are not.  Read your paints to see what you need to do to get started.  You will take the black or grey rough sponge and dab it in the paint and start lightly forming the edge of the beard.  Start close the ear where a beard would start and make a thin layer working down the chin and up to the other ear. Then gently keep adding paint till you have the shape and consistency you want.  When you have the shape you want add in paint till you have the fullness you want. Soft dabs will keep the definition of the sponge. You can see with mine I went over the same spots too many times. Mine wasn’t perfect but what pirate is?

I then moved to the cut on the cheek. I then took red pencil to make a cut. Add a little wiggle right along the cheek bone. Take a thin black eyeliner pencil and add the cut in the middle of the red to add depth.  Then with the other end of the black sponge gently dab it in the red and dab a little red around the cut, just a tiny bit to add some scruffiness to the cut.  I added stitches on top for the finishing touch.  Caden has had about 6 pirate makeovers and this was my favorite one for you to reference.

Caden didn’t want a black eye for soccer but I can describe how they did it at Disney. On the Disney Pirate makeover they make a black eye by adding black, brown, and yellow for bruising. Start with black very lightly in the corner of the eye near the nose and work out. Next take some yellow and do the other side of the eye and then outline with brown blending together the edges. Now you have an adorable man child!  Caden had so much fun telling my parents he was going to need to shave that night.  I got to the soccer field and did the makeup to several other little pirates.  It was adorable!

For the finishing touch add some tattoos.  I ordered this brand that had bright reflective gold- they were so great!  Not many people noticed at first but I got these fun socks too- it’s a peg leg!  The wood pattern is cute!  My pirate was complete.  I ordered some tattoo arm sleeves but they were really too large for the boys even though it said small enough for kids.  Here’s a link for some that specify for kids.

Just a hint use rubbing alcohol or baby oil will help to remove kids tattoos.
