With the change in temperature and the houses starting to decorate for fall, I am starting to get into the Halloween, Fall feeling. It has been a crazy year and with the holidays coming it feels good to focus on something else. For this post I wanted to share some easy recipe and craft ideas you can do with the kids to get into the Halloween spirit.
I hosted an October bunco one year and went with the Halloween theme for the appetizer and desserts. For the appetizer here is a fun Bat recipe I’ve made many times that is a crowd pleaser. They are much cuter in person than these pictures portray. You take a package of cream cheese and mix it with a packet of Ranch seasoning blend together with beaters till you feel it is mixed well. You can double the recipe if needed. Put some Blue Corn Tortilla chips (I look for the ones that look most black) in a zip lock bag and roll with a rolling pin till they are crumbs. Put the crumbs in a pie dish or bowl and take a scoop of the Ranch/cream cheese mixture about the size of a fist and roll it into a ball and roll it in the tortilla chip crumb mixture. I made them small so everyone could take an individual bat. You can see in the pictures there is a big one in the middle if they just want a scoop. Take two chips and add them as wings and cut some black olives to make eyes. I serve them with the tortilla chips and there you go, cute bats!
For dessert I made Amaretto Bundt Cakes, my favorite. I will link an easy recipe I follow here. I add extra amaretto on top at the end- for adults. I love bundt cakes- there are millions of recipes you could make- look here for some suggestions. I made my bundt cakes by the recipe; you will want to make the mold almost full so they are a little rounded at the top so when you flip them, they look like a pumpkin. I’ve seen some that double stack them if you want. I added a dot of green icing for the stem and orange to make the pumpkin theme. I know so many people love the pumpkin spice craze but I am not one of them, sorry. When the choices are pumpkin or pecan, I go for the pecan 100%! You could make a pumpkin recipe which usually calls for a powdered sugar drizzle frosting- add in a little food coloring to make it orange colored and there you go. Just a hint wait till the bundt is fully cooled or the drizzle will melt and look transparent- if you want the color to stand out let it cool.

Here is a link for a cute bat cutout you can make to make some garland with the kids, rather than worry about finding mini black clips just use clear tape and pinch it together, you can even clip the ends if you want. If you have a Silhouette or Cricut you can quickly knock this out. I think the folding of the wings really makes this stand out.
