Happy Holidays

First, I want to tell everyone Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!  Sorry I haven’t done much lately; Christmas is such a busy time for me.  I’m one of those people who have a million things going on and really have to focus on one at a time to get them done during this time of year.  I have a lot of projects in the works to write about so stay tuned.  I have been working on my son’s room remodel.  I decided to make a fort or reading nook above an old heavy desk we don’t use.  This gave a fun area for the kids to be able to watch tv, play, or even act as a bunk if needed.  We added LED’s all around the room and of course there are more coming.  I added some behind the TV yesterday.  The makeover is just what we needed to de-clutter!

With all the décor I have been buying for the room I have a few projects that will need to be done.  I bought a nail and string art project on Etsy; I will be sharing my experience.  I also bought a 4-panel canvas I thought was coming in ready to hang but it was just the rolled canvas so I have to build the frame for each one.  I already bought the wood when we bought the wood for the fort.  Since everything is made by a beginner it may not be professional but it is built with love.  I’m ok with that!

I wanted to give Caden some fun pillowcases on his bed so… I had custom pillow cases and a lamp shade to match made on Zazzle.com.  The hardest part of having an idea of what you want to do is seeing it in your head and then seeing all the different pieces together in real life.  I feel like I keep trying to stay with the same colors but to minimize the difference I have thrown in accent colors to blend.  For instance, I painted the walls grey and bought a navy quilt.  I bought navy curtains with white sheer soccer balls.  I love how it looks!  For the pillow cases I wanted a soccer ball, I looked and looked till I found this one.  It had navy and a bright blue that matched some pictures I am going to frame that I bought on Amazon.  Then I searched stock photos till I found one Caden and I liked and again it happened to be navy and bright blue.  I also painted Caden’s dresser and the rails for the fort with the same navy. I am also looking at some Ikea shelves I can paint navy for the opposite wall. I can’t wait to see it all come together.

The next part that I’ve been researching is to make sure I have different textiles and dimensions for the walls.  With everything off the walls due to painting, the room looks so bare and weird to me.  I don’t want to add anything to the walls till I know where the furniture will be.  Hopefully soon I will have everything where I want it.  It is also challenging to think of a theme and make it nice.  My son loves soccer!  Of course, he wanted a soccer room, he’s 8 going on 13, so I wanted to aim at making it Tween-ish.  It is so hard to not think of him as a little boy!  With the makeover I painted over sayings and art I had in there since I brought him home- it was bittersweet.  I love that he’s a happy big boy but I loved the baby days too!  Having one child makes every last time so hard.  For those of you with little cherish the little moments!

I will write soon about each project so follow along!

Merry Christmas!
